Officials think West Nile is killing birds
THIBODAUX - Officials in Lafourche Parish are asking residents to report dead birds.
The request is tied to concerns about West Nile virus, which can be carried by birds.
Authorities say residents should exercise caution around dead birds and report them to the parish mosquito control department at 985-580-1629 or the parish's risk management department at 985-446-8427.
Meanwhile, West Baton Rouge Parish authorities confirmed that 4 of 73 mosquito samples taken last week tested positive for West Nile Virus. There were also 11 new human cases statewide, including in Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Livingston, and Point Coupee Parishes.
