NEW ORLEANS – One day after Bobby Jindal sent a letter to President Obama demanding information about Syrian refugees in Louisiana, the U.S. State Department confirmed only 14 refugees have been resettled in the state.

According to a WWL-TV report, seven Syrian refugees were settled in Kenner, six refugees were relocated to New Orleans and a single refugee was placed in Baton Rouge.

Jindal sent a letter to President Obama Saturday demanding information on how many refugees would be resettled in Louisiana.

Jindal’s letter came a day after 129 people were killed and 352 were injured in deadly attacks Friday night in Pairs. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

According to WWL-TV, multiple blogs reported Saturday that 10,000 Syrian refugees had made their way to New Orleans. The WWL-TV report also says blogs included an image that allegedly shows Syrian men in New Orleans which is actually a photo of migrants protesting outside of a train station in Budapest, Hungary on Sept. 3.

In September, the White House announced that Obama wanted to resettle 10,000 Syrians in the U.S. in 2016. The State Department clarified Sunday that the 10,000 Syrians would be spread across the country.

“We do not have projections on how many Syrians will be resettled in each state. However, those allocations are made in close collaboration with the nongovernmental organizations that resettle refugees as well as the state and local government officials,” the State Department told WWL-TV in a statement Sunday.

The State Department said 1,809 Syrian refugees have been admitted into the U.S. since January.
