PRIDE - Authorities continue to investigate what caused a gas wellhead to explode early Monday in the Zachary/Pride area.
Lt. Doug Cain with Louisiana State Police says the wellhead, belonging to the Florida Gas Company, ruptured around 2:30 a.m. in the area near Peairs and Reams roads, just north of Joor Rd.
Cain says sheriff's deputies quickly set-up a perimeter around the area as first responders made their way to the scene.
Crews extinguished the flames shortly before 5:00 am.
A temporary evacuation was enacted within a half-mile radius of the site, but has since been lifted.
Cain says the gas company shut off the main gas line and has given the all-clear.
EBRSO, LSP, hazmat crews and representatives with the Florida Gas Company remain on the scene at this time.
