TIOGA, La.- Officials believe someone set fire to the bridge crossing Rigolette Bayou in the Tioga area of north Rapides Parish, charring the timbers supporting the 300-foot span and
making it too unstable to drive on.
Lt. Mike Brewer of the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department says that when firefighters arrived at the bridge Saturday morning, "it was burning from one end to the other."
The Town Talk reports that investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office are looking into how it caught fire and who might have set it.
Rapides Parish road Superintendent Dallas Lewis says motorists traveling toward Pineville from the west side of the bayou must detour miles out of the way.
