State law keeps officer accused of murder from bonding out of jail
MARKSVILLE- The law enforcement officer accused of murdering a 6-year-old is likely to stay in jail Thursday due to problems with his bond paperwork, according to the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff.
On Wednesday the WBRZ Investigative Unit learned paperwork was ready for Norris Greenhouse to be released, after his family put up $1 million worth of property to bond him out. However, Thursday morning the sheriff issued a statement saying the family was having running into paperwork issues.
"As of this time the paperwork is still being processed to make the bond," said Sheriff Doug Anderson. "We've run into a little bit of difficulty."
A state law prevents lawyers from posting bonds, and since Norris Greenhouse, Sr., is an attorney, he can't secure the bond for his son.
Greenhouse was arrested last week with fellow officer Derrick Stafford after Louisiana State Police said they broke the law when they shot 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis and his father, Chris Few, during a traffic pursuit. Both men were charged with murder and attempted murder with a $1 million bond.
