Off-duty deputy involved in deadly shooting
DENHAM SPRINGS - A man died after a shooting involving an off-duty Livingston Parish Sheriff's deputy and a woman at a house on Country Club Lane Tuesday afternoon.
Specific details about the incident have not been released by State Police, the lead agency on the case since the sheriff's office asked troopers to handle the investigation. A State Police spokesperson described the incident as domestic in nature.
"We believe that he was confronted in the house, and there was some type of shooting and one person was killed," LSP spokesperson Jared Sandier said. "There are lots of moving parts," he said.
It was not clear who "he" was.
The street, off Lockhart Road and north of the city, was filled with deputies and other law enforcement officials as the situation unfolded.
"All [police] could say was shots were fired and to stay back. That's all the information we could get out of it," neighbor Danielle Zeringue said. "I think [the deputy] just moved in a couple of months ago. One of the neighbors said it was his niece [ lived there] and she had been dating the deputy that moved in."
Names of those involved have not been released.
By nightfall Tuesday, investigators remained on the scene and eventually towed away an SUV from the scene. They said it was part of the investigation.
