Ochsner to close in vitro fertilization center

Ochsner Health System will close it's in vitro fertilization center in the New Orleans area.

Dr. Patrick Quinlan, the system's CEO, says an independent audit found that an embryologist had an extremely high error rate.  The problem makes it impossible to use frozen embryos for 15 patients.  Quinlan says that all 53 couples in the program should have their embryos genetically tested before they implant them.  But he also said that no problems were found in the majority of the center's embryos.

Ochsner suspended operations at the fertilization center last month after concerns arose that some  frozen embryos may have been mislabeled.
