HONOLULU, HI - President Barack Obama is putting congressional Republicans on notice that he expects to use his veto pen far more often next year.

Obama says he hasn't vetoed many bills since taking office in 2009. In fact, he's only done it twice. But with Republicans set to control both chambers of Congress next year, Republicans will have fewer obstacles to sending Obama legislation he doesn't like.

Obama says in an NPR interview that he anticipates areas of disagreement with Republicans. He says he plans to veto attempts to roll back his actions on health care and the environment.

The president says he's frustrated with the results of the midterm elections. He says Democrats had a "great record" to run on, but he and his party didn't make their case well enough.
