Obama: Right to self-determination being tested
BRUSSELS - President Barack Obama says the ideal that individuals have the right to determine their own destiny is being tested in Europe.
In a speech in Brussels, Obama says the ideal that all men and women are created equal is being threatened by an older, more traditional view of power.
He says this alternate vision argues that ordinary men and women are too small-minded to govern their own affairs.
Obama didn't say so directly but he was referring to Russia's recent annexation of Crimea.
Russia took Crimea away from Ukraine after Ukraine's pro-Russia president fled the country after months of protests against his government.
