Obama pitches minimum wage hike with Dem governors
WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama is promoting his effort to raise the minimum wage to Democratic governors.
At a White House meeting today, Obama said an increase, quote, "is not just good policy, it also happens to be good politics."
Obama says raising the minimum wage is supported by independents, Democrats and Republicans. Obama wants to raise the wage from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour.
The president says many Democratic governors are seeking increases in their own states. And he points out wages were increased in New Jersey by public referendum, even though it was opposed by New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie.
