NWS confirms tornadoes in Acadia Parish, Jennings
IOTA - The National Weather Service says three tornadoes damaged houses in Acadia and Jefferson Davis parishes, but no injuries have been reported.
Meteorologist Donald Jones said Friday that two twisters touched down in Acadia Parish late Thursday and one hit the east side of Jennings.
Acadia Parish sheriff's spokeswoman Maxine Trahan (TRAH-hahn) says at least 20 houses were damaged late Thursday in the Iota and Richard (ree-SHAHRD) areas, but nobody was hurt. Jones says their storm survey team documented major damage, including a home blown off its blocks and an RV turned over onto its side, in the Iota area.
Joe Rua (roo-uh) says St. Landry Parish deputies reported that shortly after midnight, winds damaged mobile homes and blew away a carport.
Shreveport meteorologist Gary Chatelain (SHAT-uh-layn) says northwest Louisiana had some strong thunderstorms, but no damage reports.
