DENHAM SPRINGS - Sheriff's deputies arrested a Denham Springs nursing home resident this weekend after they were told he stabbed a female resident in the neck.
Perry Rushing with the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said deputies arrested 66-year-old Ray J. Ducote Sunday afternoon in suspicion of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault.
Rushing said detectives learned later that Ducote had a "history" with the woman he stabbed, and that he confessed he intended to kill her. He said a female employee tried to intervene in the altercation, and Ducote had threatened to kill her as well.
Rushing said after stabbing the woman, Ducote handed the knife he had to a male employee and sat down in an nearby chair to wait for deputies to arrive.
The victim was taken to a Baton Rouge hospital where she is still recovering from life-threatening injuries.
