Not guilty plea entered in dancer's murder
GRETNA, La. - A woman pleaded not guilty Monday to the murder of a French Quarter strip club dancer whose dismembered body parts washed ashore in June 2012 on the Mississippi coast.
Margaret Sanchez, 30, pleaded not guilty after being charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice in the two-year murder investigation of 22-year-old Jaren Lockhart.
Investigators said surveillance video footage showed Sanchez as one of the last two people seen with Lockhart before her disappearance.
Sanchez is being held in the Jefferson Parish jail in Gretna with bond set at $1.5 million.
Officials say Sanchez's boyfriend, Terry Speaks, 41, faces the same charges in Jefferson Parish. Speaks was also one of the two caught on video with the victim before her disappearance, and is currently in federal prison until October for an unrelated crime.
