NOPD suspends officer after off-duty DWI arrest
NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans police say an officer has been suspended without pay after being booked with drunk driving while off duty.
Spokeswoman Remi Braden says the department is investigating Officer Jayson Germann.
State Trooper Nick Manale says Germann, of Bush, apparently lost control of his unmarked car shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday on the Interstate 10 twin span. Manale says the Chevrolet Impala hit a guardrail, swerved back and hit a Geo.
He says Germann was booked with careless driving, and he and 53-year-old Frank Hyde of Slidell both were booked with DWI.
Manale says neither was injured.
Slidell police say Hyde remains jailed and Germann is out on bond.
A phone listed as Germann's was not answered Sunday. It was not clear whether either driver has an attorney.
