NEW ORLEANS - An NOPD officer was injured by shrapnel when he was shot at while responding to a crime scene Friday, according to the police department.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu and NOPD Chief Michael Harrison said the officer was going to be okay, and that he was hurt when the bullet fired at him passed through his cruiser's windshield.

Chief Harrison said the officer was working off-duty detail in Columbia Parc when he responded to a call about a shooting around 5:30 p.m. He was shot at and injured in the shoulder, and said the shooter left in a white luxury vehicle driven by another person.

One person at the scene was killed, and police said they're looking for the gunman at this time.
