NOPD officer dies from sustained injuries
NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans Police Officer Vernell Brown Jr. has died after he was struck by a car earlier this week.
The police department announced in a news release Saturday at the 17-year veteran of the department died Friday night in a local hospital.
The 47-year-old Brown was struck July 12 at the U.S. Highway 90-Interstate 10 East split around 5:30 a.m.
Authorities say the driver of a Ford Mustang crashed into a Toyota Scion, before striking Brown. The drivers of both cars suffered minor injuries.
An investigation is continuing. Police spokesman Tyler Gamble says no charges have been filed.
