A veteran New Orleans police officer has been suspended from the force after he was arrested on three charges.

Police Officer Douglas Butler, a 13-year veteran of the department, was arrested Saturday night by St. Bernard Parish sheriff's deputies. It was not immediately known whether Butler was released from jail. Telephone calls to the jail were not answered.

According to Tuesday's press release, Butler was booked for simple domestic battery on his girlfriend, disturbing the peace, and public intoxication.

Butler was suspended without pay after Public Integrity investigators with the New Orleans Police Department started a preliminary investigation into the incident.
