NOPD: handcuffed man allegedly shot officer
NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans police say a handcuffed man allegedly grabbed an officer's holstered gun and shot him in the leg.
Officer Hilal Williams says the officer is in good condition.
She says 41-year-old Damon Jones of New Orleans was booked with disturbing the peace, resisting arrest and aggravated battery on a police officer.
Williams says officers saw Jones walking away from a convenience store where a disturbance had been reported early Sunday. She says he headed toward them belligerently, and was handcuffed because he became more agitated when they tried to interview him.
Jones allegedly grabbed the gun as the officers tried to get him into their car.
Williams says he allegedly had become belligerent in the store.
It was not clear whether Jones had an attorney.
