NOPD: Fast arrest after fatal shooting
NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans police say officers watching for drug dealers made quick arrests in a fatal shooting.
Officer Hilal Williams says detectives on surveillance on the west bank heard a gunshot Saturday afternoon, saw a vehicle speed off and broadcast its description while trying to rescue the 24-year-old victim.
Other officers chased the car. Williams' news release says the car stopped and two men ran. She says police searched the area and arrested 19-year-old Lionel Lee and 21-year-old Christopher Covington less than an hour after the shooting.
Online booking information indicates that both were booked Sunday with second-degree murder. Covington's bond was set at $402,500 and Lee's at $350,000.
It was not clear whether either had an attorney. No home phone listing was available for either.
