Nola named SEC Pitcher of the Week after LSU wins
BATON ROUGE - The SEC named LSU sophomore right-hander Aaron Nola as the conference's Pitcher of the Week today.
Nola threw his fourth consecutive complete game Friday and had his second shutout of the season against No. 19 Florida. He held the Gators to no runs and four singles in nine innings, with one walk and three strikeouts.
Nola's the first LSU pitcher with four consecutive complete-game victories since Mike Sirotka in 1993. He's also the first LSU pitcher with two shutouts in one season since Greg Smith in 2005.
Nola improved to 9-0 this season with a 1.92 ERA and an SEC-leading 93 strikeouts in 89 innings of work. He was also named SEC Pitcher of the Week two weeks ago after blanking Alabama.
