Police give update on 'No Refusal' weekend
Louisiana State Police called the "No Refusal" weekend a success. Troopers said they worked zero fatalities during the Labor Day holiday weekend. Five people died in alcohol-related accidents last year.
More than 50 law enforcement agencies took part in a program to crackdown on DWI's. The "No Refusal" campaign involved police seeking a search warrant if a DWI suspect refused a breath test. That would allow the officer to order a blood sample from the suspect.
Louisiana ACLU leaders said they question a process requiring you to give a blood sample to the government. They said more safeguards for storing and disposing of the evidence is needed.
Troopers said only medical professionals will draw blood, and the blood will only be tested for DWI-related issues. They said it will be sealed and stored in a safe manner.
