PORT ALLEN- The mayor did not get an ordinance introduced to set her pay at $85,000 at the city council meeting Wednesday night.

Deedy Slaughter wants to be paid $20,000 more than what the council adjusted the mayor's salary to be prior to her becoming mayor. Then, the council dropped the salary to $65,000. In a lawsuit dealing with that, and other issues, a judge said the council did not properly drop the figure and she could receive the full amount if leaders could work it into the budget.

After a discussion at the latest council meeting, an ordinance setting the salary was pushed to a committee meeting and eventually returning to the full council.

"I am not ready to introduce it until it gets introduced properly," Councilman R.J. Loupe said.

It could be discussed next month.
