No need to worry: Exxon plant on Scenic Highway is flaring
BATON ROUGE - If you notice a bright light in the Baton Rouge skyline, there's no need to worry. The ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Chemical Plant on Scene Highway began flaring Monday night.
In a press release, the company explained that "flares are primarily safety control devices intended to consume excess hydrocarbons during shutdown, start-up, and other non-routine activities".
ExxonMobil says there's no reason to worry and anyone concerned with the flaring should call (225) 977-8393.
