Nicholls State, Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State were favorites in the Southland Conference men's preseason basketball poll.

Nicholls State was the sports information directors choice while Stephen F. Austin was the coaches' favorite in the East Division race.

Sam Houston swept the West's top spots in both polls.

Nicholls junior forward Anatoly Bose was on the preseason all-conference first team.
