Niagara issues water recall for several brands
ONTARIO - Niagara Bottling Company is recalling its spring water products because of a possible E. coli contamination.
The company is asking customers to boil the bottled water or avoid drinking it at all.
Niagara Bottling said one of its spring sources has a "positive indication" of E. coli. That means the water could be contaminated with human or animal waste. There have been no reports of illness or injury. Out of caution, the company is issuing the recall for its products produced at facilities in Hamburg and Allentown, Pennsylvania from June 10, 3a.m., to June 18, 8p.m., 2015.
The following 14 brands could be contaminated:
- Big Y
- Best Yet
- Nature's Place
- Morning Fresh
- Western Beef Blue
The only affected products have codes beginning with the letter F (for Hamburg) or A (for Allentown). The first digit of the code indicates the number of the production line, followed by the date and time the product was bottled.
Recalled codes could look like this: F418JUN15 0800
E.coli can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms, the company said, and may pose a greater risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly and people with severely compromised immune systems.
