BATON ROUGE- After viewers reported a gas station dispensing diesel fuel instead of regular gasoline as marked, WBRZ News2 investigated who is responsible for checking fuel pumps.
"It is very rare that we find something that was planned ... to purposefully defraud the consuming public," said Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain.
Strain's department is in charge of many things, including regulating fuel pumps in Louisiana. And, there are some 150,000.
Forty-two inspectors make rotations and investigate complaints.
"We also take samples of that fuel to check to see if it has any water. Then... through our labs, we test the octane," Strain said.
