News 2 Investigates: Top Ticket Violators
BATON ROUGE - The top ten parking ticket violators from 2012 account for 291 tickets, and most of those haven't been paid.
More than 3,000 people were cited for a parking violation last year and 5,079 tickets were outstanding as of March when the city provided News 2 the list.
It's a problem the parish attorney's office has dealt with for years: how to get violators to settle their debts.
We targeted the top ten to question them as to why they continue to beat the system.
Many of them appear at the top of the master list, which has about 46,000 violators.
Baton Rouge Police will not boot or tow, and for years the city-parish relied on the honor system, people doing the right thing and paying their parking tickets.
Last year, the city contacted to top violators asking them to enter into a payment plan. Those days are over.
Thursday on News 2 at 10 we'll explain how the city will collect what it's owed.
