News 2 Investigates: My Refund cards
BATON ROUGE - Around 30,000 people never got their Louisiana state tax refunds last year, leaving $3.4 million dollars unclaimed.
The state's "My Refund" card replaced paper checks for people without direct deposit. Nearly a quarter of Louisiana residents don't have a bank account.
If the card wasn't activated for a year, the state sent the money to the state treasurer's office, where it sits waiting to be claimed.
News 2's Investigative Unit looked into why so many cards go unclaimed each year, and will have what they uncovered tonight on WBRZ News 2 at 10.
