Newly freed, newly wed, Edwards to celebrate 84th
NEW ORLEANS- Weeks after ending his federal detention, and a day after getting married for the third time, former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards continues his return to the public eye in New Orleans with a weekend news conference, book signing and "roast" to celebrate his upcoming 84th birthday.
Saturday's events take place at the Monteleone hotel in the French Quarter. That's where, on Friday, he married 32-year-old Trina Grimes Scott, who had befriended him when he was serving his federal prison sentence for a bribery and extortion scheme.
The "roast" marking his Aug. 7 birthday will be private but he's scheduled to talk to reporters in the afternoon and sign copies of his authorized biography from 9 p.m. until midnight.
