BATON ROUGE - People in Baton Rouge started celebrating the New Year early with Red Stick Revelry kids' events Wednesday morning downtown.

The city's official New Year's Eve celebration started at 11 a.m. with hands-on arts activities for children, including making Choctaw dream catchers with local artists and dancing with the cast of "Kick It Out", an upcoming dance show by Of Moving Colors Productions.

The city will raise the Red Stick noon, which will stay over the Town Square until it drops at midnight. It's the second year the city has held its Red Stick Revelry celebration.

Live music and other events will get underway at 6:30 p.m. For a schedule of events, visit the Red Stick Revelry website.
