New traffic laws take effect

Louisiana State Troopers are enforcing new rules of the road.  

Starting today, everyone in a vehicle must wear a seat belt.

On multi-lane roadways, drivers are not allowed to travel in the left lane.  There are some exceptions, such as passing another vehicle traveling under the posted speed limit.

When passing a bicyclist traveling in your direction, you must leave at least three feet between your vehicle and the bicycle rider.

The rules were signed into law in August.  Law enforcement officials allowed for a 45-day grace period in which to educate the public
