New Roads receives playground grant
NEW ROADS - The city of New Roads announced Monday that they received a $15,000 grant to build a new playground, and asked for the public's help with the construction.
The grant, part of a nationwide project called "Let's Play", will cover the costs of playground equipment for the new park.
Mayor Robert Myer said they also want the community to get involved with the construction of the park.
"I think this will be a great day for our community, giving us the opportunity to come together and do something for our city," Myer said. "Our children deserve the opportunity to grow up in a community where they can safely play and engage in outdoor activities."
The "Let's Play" project is a nationwide effort by the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and the KaBoom non-profit group.
People who would like to sign up as volunteers to complete the park should contact city hall at (225) 638-5360.
