New Pride-Cheneyville EBRSO substation opens
CHENEYVILLE- There are new neighbors in the Pride-Cheneyville area, and people living there are thrilled to see them.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office officially opened a new substation today on the grounds of the old Northeast High School. The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board donated the land, and the buildings were donated by ExxonMobil.
Mabel Burks grew up in Cheneyville before moving to California when she was a teenager in the 1940's, then moved back nine years ago. Burks says the substation is a good fit due to the growth in the area.
Cheneyville Community Center Director Marie Bradford also likes having additional resources in the area. Bradford said the sheriff's office is already good about helping whenever asked.
Sheriff Sid Gautreaux says about 15 deputies will patrol this portion of the parish from the substation. He said his first assignment in law enforcement actually included covering Cheneyville from the Central substation, and that experience made putting a substation there a priority for him.
