New playground in New Roads
NEW ROADS- Volunteers spent part of the weekend building a playground.
The area is part of a larger complex and is set to open next month. Some people hope the playground will serve as a tool to keep kids busy during the summer.
"It's very needed. The closest one to something similar to this is probably 15 to 20 miles away," said volunteer Ricky Boudreaux.
The total cost of the community park is about $600,000 and the cost of the playground comes to about $60,000.
The city received a construction grant from Kaboom! and Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, to help cut down on costs.
The playground is expected to be completed by the end of July and the grand opening of the park will be at the beginning of August.
