BATON ROUGE - LSU's baseball team had to turn back and leave their plane after mechanical trouble grounded the flight to Texas A&M Thursday evening.

Associate Athletic Director Michael Bonnette said the team's plane returned to the airport before reaching cruising altitude because of trouble with its flaps.

After more than an hour on the tarmac, the team exited the plane to go practice at Alex Box Stadium while they waited for a replacement plane.

LSU players posted several messages about the incident on social media. Pitcher Cody Glenn posted a picture tagged #stuckselfie of the team waiting to depart.

"Well that's a first... Flight took off and then came right back home," outfielder Christopher Sciambra posted on Twitter.

The Tigers face Texas A&M in a three-game series starting Friday night in College Station.

The airline said it had a replacement plane in the air and it would land in Baton Rouge late Thursday night to ferry players to Texas overnight. The team was expected to be in Texas early Friday morning.
