NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans police say the suspect in the shooting of a deputy during a drug raid has been arrested on a charge of attempted first-degree murder.

In a statement several hours after the Tuesday shooting, police identify the suspect as 26-year-old Jarvis Hardy. Police say he was arrested Tuesday morning after he shot and wounded Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputy Stephen Arnold.

Police say also was arrested on narcotics violations.

Police say the 35-year-old Arnold was trying to serve a warrant as part of a federal task force when he was shot at a home in the Lower 9th Ward section of the city.

Police have said Arnold is in critical condition after undergoing surgery.
