New Orleans officer arrested, suspended for DWI
NEW ORLEANS - A New Orleans police officer has been placed on emergency suspension without pay after a weekend arrest for driving while intoxicated.
The department, in a news release Tuesday, said 26-year-old Officer David Aranda was placed on emergency suspension pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.
Authorities say Causeway Police Department officers noticed Aranda driving erratically in his personal vehicle about 9 p.m. Saturday while heading northbound on the Causeway Bridge. Police stopped him and administered a field sobriety test after detecting alcohol on Aranda's breath.
Authorities say Aranda failed the test and was booked with DWI. It was not immediately known if Aranda remained jailed or had an attorney.
Aranda is a five-year veteran of the New Orleans police force and was most recently assigned to the city's First District.
