New license plates will commemorate Battle of New Orleans
BATON ROUGE - The 200th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans will be commemorated on Louisiana's license plates, starting next year.
Legislation received final passage Thursday with a unanimous vote of the Seante. It requires that license plates issued for private passenger vehicles from 2014 through 2015 should honor the battle's bicentennial.
The current pelican imprint on the license plate will be replaced with the words "Battle of New Orleans Bicentennial 1815-2015." The website www.louisianatravel.com will be listed on the bottom of the plate instead of the current "Sportsman's Paradise."
The Battle of New Orleans was part of the War of 1812 between the United States and Britain.
