SLIDELL – A three-vehicle crash on I-10 westbound near Old Spanish Trail in Slidell claimed the life of one man from New Jersey.

The crash happened on Labor Day around 12 p.m. when 66-year-old Milton Frank was traveling east bound on I-10 near Spanish Trial in a Chrevrolet Tahoe. For unknown reasons, Frank lost control of his vehicle, crossed the median and entered the westbound lanes of I-10. After crossing the median, Frank's Tahoe was hit head on by a BMW driven by 26-year-old Steven Fernandez of Bergenfield, New Jersey.

After colliding with the BMW, the Tahoe was hit by a second vehicle, a Honda Accord, driven by 24-year-old Irvin Darensbourg. Danielle Carballeira, 26, was the front passenger in the car.

Despite wearing his seat belt, Fernandez sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office. Both Frank and Carballeria were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. They both sustained moderate injuries and were transported to an area hospital.

Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor. Troopers obtained blood samples that will be submitted to the Louisiana State Crime Lab for analysis. The crash is still under investigation.
