New Iberia evacuation ends, plant cleanup starts
NEW IBERIA, La - People are back in 68 homes and businesses in New Iberia, two days after a chemical fire forced evacuation.
But Louisiana State Police say they won't reopen the street in front of Multi-Chem Corp. until the cleanup at the plant is complete.
Trooper Stephen Hammons says that's expected to take several weeks.
Nobody was hurt in the explosions and fire Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause. Hammons says hazardous materials crews put out the last fires Wednesday.
