GEISMAR - A 16-year veteran of the armed services who was is injured during a 2011 tour of duty in Iraq is the proud owner of a new home in Geismar as of Wednesday morning.

Wells Fargo and the Military Warriors Foundation presented Cory Jenkins, who served in the military around the world for more than 16 years, with the keys to his new home.

It's part of Wells Fargo's $30 million commitment in property donations to help house veterans over the next three years.

"To be able to see for yourself them walk into the home, and they can't get the smile off their face because they're literally coming home," said Angela Vander Werf, Real Estate Owned Manager for Wells Fargo.

After all that time, Jenkins said its nice to have a place to call his own.

"There are millions of people out there, and I'm not saying they're more deserving then me, but out of all the people they picked me. So you know it had to be something special and that's what makes it so unique. It makes me so thankful to actually have a place of my own," said Jenkins.

Wells Fargo donates the homes to the Military Warriors foundation, which then picks a veteran that mets the criteria. So far, Wells Fargo has donated more than 150 homes to veterans across the country. This is the third time a home in Louisiana has been donated to a veteran through the program.
