The state revenue department is hosting question-and-answer sessions next week about a new tax break available to parents of school children.
Parents can deduct the costs of uniforms, textbooks, supplies required by the school, home-schooling supplies and private school tuition from their income taxes.
The deductions are equal to 50 percent of the amount paid during the tax year, up to $5,000 per
child.
The revenue department is holding informational meetings about the tax break Feb. 9 in Pineville, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe, Luling and Shreveport.
