LAFAYETTE - Investigators in Lafayette released new details this afternoon in their search for missing college student Michaela "Mickey" Shunick.

Cpl. Paul Mouton with the Lafayette Police Department said detectives sent Shunick's bike to the State Police Crime Lab for further testing.  It was found Sunday submerged in water beneath the I-10 Whiskey Bay Bridge.

Mouton said the rear wheel's rim was bent and the tire was off the bike when it was found, but wouldn't comment any further about the condition of the bike.

Investigators believe someone dumped the bike in the water underneath the Whiskey Bay Bridge, and did not throw it from the bridge above.

Shunick disappeared May 19 after leaving a friend's house on the bike.  Police released surveillance photos of some vehicles of interest seen in the area where Shunick was riding, and asked anyone who can identify them to contact them at (337) 291-8633.
