BATON ROUGE - A network of public charter schools based out of Texas has announced plans for two new schools set to open in Baton Rouge next year.

IDEA Cortana Academy and College Prep will serve students in Baton Rouge in Kinder through 2nd & 6th grade in its first year. The school will add grade levels until it serves Pre-K to 12th grade in 2024.

IDEA says Cortana Academy and another school are scheduled to open in Fall 2018. Details on the second school have not been announced as of yet.

IDEA Public Schools has opened schools in Austin and San Antonio, Texas. It says demand for more high-performing public schools has pushed them to grow within Texas and beyond.

Beginning in September, parents can visit www.ideapublicschools.org/apply to submit an application for the 2018-19 school year. Additionally, IDEA will host a student lottery in January to randomly select who will fill spots at IDEA campuses for the 2018-19 school year.
