WALKER - For the first time ever in Livingston Parish, a tract of land has been certified under the Louisiana Economic Development certified-sites program.

The 93-acre site in the Livingston Parish Industrial Park just off Florida Boulevard in Walker is the twentieth certified site in the Capital Region, according to the Baton Rouge Area Chamber. The certification tells potential buyers that the land is ready to be used.

The parish can now use the certification as a marketing tool to bring in new business and jobs to the area. Livingston Economic Development Council (LEDC) President Randy Rogers says the state has missed out on new business in the past. The certification saves companies time and money when searching for a build site.

"Well it says that we're serious about economic development, that we know our site," said Rogers. "We can answer questions as soon as a company calls and wants to know the mileage rate, wetlands, flood plains, soil boring capacity. We've got that information."

Rogers says two businesses are already looking to buy the land to start building. He says parish residents should be excited for what lies ahead.

"This is an opportunity for us to bring high-paying jobs and capital investment, and that's one of the things we need. We still have more of our workforce traveling out of the parish to work. We're doing our best to provide jobs here in the parish for our residents.

Rogers says the LEDC is looking to certify its second tract of land soon, this time along Interstate 12.
