PLAQUEMINE - There are more warnings when crossing some area railroad tracks.

New billboards going up along La. 75 in Plaquemine and one in West Baton Rouge Parish now remind drivers to expect a train. The locations were chosen because of the volume of traffic at those crossings.

Plaquemine Police recently worked with Union Pacific to crack down on drivers ignoring railroad signs and warnings. Capt. Kenny Payne said it's a danger he takes seriously.

"I have a son who just got his permit a few weeks ago and we talk about those things," he told News 2.

The billboards remind drivers to look both ways before crossing, don't try to beat the train, and never stop on the tracks.
