New 911 center in E. Feliciana Parish
CLINTON- After years of uncertainty, East Feliciana Parish now has a dependable 911 center that should improve response time in the parish.
The parish had to create a separate 911 communications district back in may. This comes after the East Feliciana Sheriff's Office could no longer afford to fund the 911 operation for the parish.
Friday the parish held a ribbon cutting for a new half million dollar center.
The new facility includes new and improved equipment. Parish officials say residents needing the service should notice a significant difference.
"We've been able to increase the response time dramatically. The equipment that we had at the jail at the time was obsolete and in desperate need of upgrade," said Bill Ford.
Funding for this project comes from surcharges on cell and landline phones and from grants. The parish also charges towns a service fee up to $600 for the service.
