The Netherlands will play in their first World Cup final since 1978. It will only be their third finals appearance in history.
The Dutch will look to make the third time the charm. Both of their previous finals appearances were losses. They fell to Argentina in 1978 and West Germany in 1974.
They await the winner of world powers Spain and Germany in Sunday's title game. With his goal in the 70th minute, the Netherlands' Wesley Sneijder is now tied with Spain's David Villa for most goals this World Cup with five.
With the Netherlands going up against the winner of Spain and Germany, it will be the second straight World Cup with a European finals showdown.
