Neighborhood concerned after shooting near park
BATON ROUGE - A neighborhood is questioning their safety after a shooting in broad daylight.
It happened Tuesday afternoon on Kernan Ave., next to Kernan Avenue Park. Police say a woman was hit in the neck and hip while sitting in her car. She drove herself to the hospital with non-threatening injuries.
Parents in the neighborhood say they don't want to put their children at risk.
"I don't really feel comfortable no more," said Dez Brown. "I don't think I'm going to bring my children over here, just because somebody at the park shooting."
BREC says they increase their security patrol during the summer months with police and park rangers, but neighbors near the park say they're still concerned.
"You got shooting in the park at night," said Patricia Mitchell. "I hear it at night."
BREC says they're updating their emergency plan and talking about new security ideas to help prevent more violence.
