Negligent homicide charges in fatal crash
PRAIRIEVILLE, La. - State police are charging a man with negligent homicide after a fatal crash in Ascension Parish Thursday morning.
Troopers say Dalyn Melancon, 24, was driving westbound on LA Hwy. 42 and started to drift off the road to the right. He overcorrected into the eastbound lane and struck 56-year-old Sheri Thompson's vehicle head on, according to a release.
Thompson suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash despite wearing her seat belt.
Officials say excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash.
Melancon is charged with negligent homicide, careless operation and no seatbelt.
